We Are Ethical and Healthful Vegans

I have been an ethical vegetarian for nearly 40 years. For most of those years I was mostly vegan. After learning of the cruelties of factory farming in the dairy and egg industries, I have become almost completely vegan. I would say I am totally vegan, but unfortunately I believe that when I'm out at restaurants, I am probably unwittingly eating a small bit of undisclosed dairy or egg products.

A vegetarian friend of mine, whose work requires lots of travel, believes that it is impossible to be vegan in our society. I disagreed, and said it is more of a "Just Do It" kind of thing. As in, if you have a choice between a bagel and a muffin, go for the bagel. If you have a choice between cream cheese and jam... go for the jam. You may not always get what you want when you want it (like vegan cookies), but it can be done. I would also suggest finding out where the vegan restaurants are (via www.happycow.net) and try them all out while traveling! If there are no vegan restaurants around you during travel, one place where you can always find vegan foods is at grocery stores. You can eat a healthy beneficial veggie raw diet if you want, or when it seems to have no other choices.

All it really takes is a commitment to a vegan diet, which has many advantages. Don't worry about a lack of vegan sources of protein.  Almost everything has a bit of protein, and the requirement of complete protein is easily filled with a combination of grains and legumes.

As for our society ... If we all asked at the restaurants we enter if they will make us a vegan entre, more restaurants would start to put vegan options on their menus. Society would soon find that these vegetarian alternatives exist, and maybe move toward a more healthful and environmentally sound vegan diet. (Did you know that the UN reported that animal agriculture is THE  top reason for climate change, deforestation, and global warming?!)

So, now that you eat with delicious vegan recipes (even vegan cakes are easy!), the next logical step is to wear vegetarian clothing. That means non leather shoes, vegan knee high boots,  vegan hiking boots, to non leather snow boots. Cheap vegan dress shoes and of course, vegan sneakers can easliy be found.  If you are a conscientious label reader, vegan shoes, belts, purses, and bags can be bought.

Many online stores sell vegan accessories. You may have to do searches for types of non leather substitutes such as pleather, vinyl, nylon,  polyester, fleece etc.....You can find vegan gifts, cruelty free Cosmetics, vegan laptop bags, vegan peacoats, and vegan full length coats. Many vegan products and vegan recipes will be featured on this website to help you navigate towards a more compassionate world.
