How do I find out if the fabric I buy at the fabric store is animal cruelty free? There are no tags.?

For the sake of defenseless animals and in dispute with companies who test on animals or use animal products, I want my sewing fabric to be cruelty free. Please visit Peta.com to learn more about what I mean.

You're doing that RIGHT NOW. Why do you seem to think that someone you respect doing something is a great reason for you or anyone else to do it? Just because you don't tell people what to do (you do) isn't a good reason for everyone else doing it. You're a hypocrite yourself.

Sorry. Anyway. There really is no good way to tell if they don't list it. I guess the best way would be to buy your fabrics online, where there are probably sites with such kinds of fabrics in specific. But otherwise you would have to contact the companies, and then you still couldn't at all be sure.
